Ziply Fiber, other internet providers to receive over $100 million in state funding

The state of Oregon is set to distribute $133 million in broadband funding to Ziply Fiber and 12 other organizations, aimed at expanding broadband access to unserved and underserved communities. Ziply Fiber will receive three separate grants totaling approximately $18.6 million.

This announcement comes from the Oregon Broadband Office, which issued a notice of intent to award the funding.

Beacon Broadband is poised to receive the largest portion of the funding, with a grant of $194 million. Other notable recipients include Jefferson County, which will receive $19.3 million, and Farmers Mutual Telephone Company, slated for $18.9 million.

The Oregon Broadband Office received 67 applications requesting a total of $445 million. Funding decisions were based on a scoring system that factored in social vulnerability, the number of unserved locations, and the affordability of services.

Awardees are required to provide broadband service with a minimum speed of 100 Mbps for both upstream and downstream connections.

The funding comes from the federal Capital Projects Fund.
